Jonathan Scott's Galveston Beach House Makeover
He may not have taken home the crown for this season of Brother Vs. Brother, but Jonathan still managed to pull off an incredible transformation and modernization of his previously outdated and stark white single-story beach house.

Jonathan's Modern Beach Town Getaway
After two years, Jonathan's reign as the Brother Vs. Brother champ comes to an end. He took a gamble on a single-story Galveston beach house in need of some cosmetic updating for $360,000. After $157,000 in renovation costs, Jonathan sold the home for $587,500, netting $70,500.
Living Room, Before
Some may call this fireplace “retro,” but Jonathan just calls it “ugly” and not fit for his visions of a modern, sophisticated living space. Though the main area is basically a blank slate to start with, the cosmetic issues of white paneling, popcorn ceilings and dated carpet can be a bit difficult to see past.
Living Room, After
Hello, gorgeous! Deep blue paint, rich flooring and a raised ceiling with wood accents transform this space into the luxurious living and dining room of any vacationer’s dreams.

Kitchen, Before
Not exactly a home away from home, is it? The dated peninsula, carpet and light fixtures have to go.
Kitchen, After
With sleek cabinets, new flooring and a waterfall island, the new kitchen is nearly unrecognizable.

Master Bedroom, Before
Are you ready to enjoy a relaxing vacation in this leftover Murphy bed? Didn’t think so.
Master Bedroom, After
With the wall separating the bedroom from the extra room facing the back patio removed, Jonathan was able to seriously expand the square footage into an acceptable master bedroom.

Master Bathroom, Before
It wouldn’t be a bathroom reno without some seriously dated wallpaper. Jonathan’s bathroom has a lot of it.
Master Bathroom, After
Goodbye, wallpaper. Hello, sleek and glossy, tile!

Guest Bunk Bedroom, Before
Bland, much? Dated carpet, popcorn ceilings and wall paneling all need to be ripped out of this existing bedroom to flow with the rest of Jonathan’s modern design plan.
Guest Bunk Bedroom, After
All new fixtures, paint and furnishings make this new guest retreat nearly unrecognizable.

Guest Bedroom, Before
More stark white walls! This room is in desperate need of color and warmth to make it a suitable guest retreat.
Guest Bedroom, After
Now? It’s a quiet sanctuary perfect for relaxing while on vacation.

Guest Bathroom, Before
The former bathroom was definitely beach-themed, but not exactly what Jonathan was aiming for.
Guest Bathroom, After
Jonathan made the most of the existing space with an incredible new double sink vanity, wood accent wall and a floating toilet that blends seamlessly into its surroundings.

Deck, Before
With $20,000 budgeted for his outdoor spaces, Jonathan has an ambitious plan to greatly expand the square footage of the upper deck and give it a modern feel to coincide with the rest of the home.
Deck, After
This is quite literally not the same deck. Jonathan replaced all of the old decking with composite boards, which look just as nice as wood but happen to be more durable.

Storage Room, Before
With his grand plans squashed for turning this bare bones bathroom into a grand ground level bathroom, ideal for cleaning up after a day out on the boat, Jonathan had to quickly come up with a Plan B to make this space usable.
Storage Room, After
Gorgeous beadboard with fresh yellow paint and some creative shelving turn this former blank slate into the perfect private spot for changing and storage.

Bonus Area, Before
With Galveston beach houses up on stilts, there’s plenty of usable space on the ground level to create additional lounge areas.
Bonus Area, After
And so, he did! The ground level of Jonathan’s house now includes a margarita bar, two seating areas and a pool table.

Exterior, Before
The white exterior and green trim of Jonathan's house was severely outdated, and the decking in front needed some love.
Exterior, After
The modern teal paint job makes Jonathan's house stand out from its beachfront block neighbords. Converting the carports into double garages also ups its curb appeal.
Exterior, After
A new downstairs nook in the front of the house is used as a cozy seating area.
Until Next Time
You can be sure Jonathan won't take this loss sitting down. See you next season, Scott Brothers!
