Jane Fonda's Sprawling Former Santa Fe Ranch

The 2,300-acre ranch sits on the banks of the Pecos River, has a 9,600-square-foot main house, an equestrian center, a hacienda/guesthouse, a log house and a rancher's house. The two-time Academy Award-winning actress bought the property in 2000.

An Aerial View of a Rural Paradise

Actress Jane Fonda purchased Forked Lightning Ranch when she was splitting from husband Ted Turner with whom she learned to fly fish. As she knew she'd miss it, she chose a property on 3.5 miles of the Pecos River and continued to fish. Though Fonda eventually sold the property in 2015 for a cool $19.5 million to an undisclosed buyer, it remains a gorgeous property that defines New Mexico's unique beauty.

Living Room

The hearths for the home's fireplaces were created in the likeness of older New Mexico homes. The walls are painted in a high-gloss finish, known as diamond-point plaster because of its luster, and the floors are mismatched bricks, also a distinctive feature of homes in the area. The elk is from Ted.

Dining Room

Fonda's goal was that the design of her home reflect the architecture of the past. Consequently, when friend Robert Redford visited he remarked that he assumed the home had been around for 100 years.

Wood Beams

Finding the right beams for the ceilings, which are all reclaimed wood, was a painstaking process but the result was well worth the effort.

Kitchen

We love the kitchen's high ceiling, large window and spacious island, but mostly we adore the mismatched brick tiles throughout the river house.

Library

Reclaimed wood beams adorn the ceiling of Fonda's library, which houses her collection of Navajo rugs and artifacts acquired over her many years of travel and adventure.

Bedroom

Fonda said she built the property as her sanctuary, as her escape. It was here that the Academy Award winner wrote her memoir My Life So Far. She has called it a place of healing and beauty.

Pool

The 20' by 60' non-chlorine swimming pool is surrounded by native plants and trees. Nearby is an organic garden. The closest neighbors are miles and miles away.

Horse Stables

The 12-stall equestrian center is completely solar powered and provides hot water to heat the floors in wintertime. There are birthing facilities, a bathing area and even shaded hitching posts for the comfort of both horse and rider.
