Cindy Crawford Gets a Workout While Surprising Her Trainer with a Home Remodel

Supermodel and entrepreneur Cindy Crawford partners with the Property Brothers on Celebrity IOU. Together, they transform her trainer’s new home into a warm and welcoming space for gathering and entertaining.

Designing a Chic Gathering Space for Long-Awaited First-Time Homeowners

The original supermodel turned super-remodeler, Cindy Crawford, gave back to her long-time trainer, Sara, with some help from Property Brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott on Celebrity IOU. Sara and her family endured lots of hardship over the last decade. When they were finally able to purchase their first home, Cindy stepped in to create the type of space Sara had always dreamed of owning. “I can’t imagine all the fun things [Sara and Rick] will be able to experience in their first home,” said Cindy. “It was my plan to get in here before they moved in, and I’m excited to design it with them in mind.”

A New Gathering Space

“Sara has so much gratitude,” said Cindy. “She’d be thrilled if we painted the walls, but she’s going to get so much more.” With Sara's love of hosting in mind, Cindy, Drew and Jonathan redesigned her and Rick's entryway, family room and kitchen in less than six weeks.

Before: The Entryway

Cindy and the designers saw potential in the wide entry's dark wood floors and ornate stained-glass windows. An unused brick planter occupied floorspace.

After: The Entryway

Original stained glass windows shine in this now-sleek entry. An archway separates the entrance from the rest of the home. As for the décor, a statement-worthy, stone side table holds an oversized table lamp, while abstract art and lush plants create focal points in the hallway.

Before: The Hallway

With dated accents, the hallway wasn't offering a warm welcome to anyone. An overhead skylight let in some natural light, but the design team looked to brighten the whole hallway.

After: The Hallway

Now, guests are greeted by a round mirror, framed art and a leather bench. Mid-tone wood floors both ground and brighten the space. The best part: The team removed the old brick planter and extended the wall behind it, using the extra space to build a powder room.

After: The Powder Room

A powder room in the hallway is a game-changer for Sara and Rick. Contrasting the bright hallway, Drew and Jonathan went with darker, edgy details for the powder room. A black marble vanity with white-and-gold veining complements the gold-framed mirror, modern lighting and sink hardware. Gray walls enhance the space's moody ambiance.

Before: The Family Room

A large room at the end of the hallway seemed like the perfect area for a family room, but the placement of the French doors provided limited options for functional furniture orientation.

After: The Family Room

By replacing the French doors with a large window from the kitchen, Drew and Jonathan enhanced the practicality of the family room. An oversized, low-profile sofa fits beneath the window, allowing for ample foot-traffic into the kitchen. Three arches define sleek built-in shelves complete with cabinets for storage and room for a mounted television (that looks like artwork when not in use).

Before: The Kitchen

It wasn't in terrible shape, but it was certainly dated. Cindy described her dream home as a “no coaster household” — a place where guests and family don't have to worry about leaving water marks on tabletops — so the design team sought ways to make the kitchen contemporary, warm and livable.

After: The Kitchen

Drew and Jonathan expanded the room's footprint by tearing down a wall that separated the kitchen from the adjacent laundry room and relocating the washer and dryer. Then they outfitted the back area of the kitchen with new appliances. White quartz countertops with beige-and-blue veining and a waterfall island provide a durable food-prep surface. To make the most of the space, Drew and Jonathan installed a built-in banquette as a new dining-and-gathering space for Sara and Rick's family. Black wishbone chairs add function and chic charm.

After: The Kitchen

For a contemporary look, Jonathan and Drew installed the same beige-and-blue quartz used for the countertops on the vent hood above a charming, white gas range. Ample wooden cabinetry creates plenty of room for dishes and appliances. Modern matte-black pendants bring shine to the space.

Before: The Kitchen

A dividing wall with a bar-height countertop separated the kitchen from the dining area and family room. Double ceiling fans and inconsistent ceiling finishes demanded attention. Banquette seating lined one corner of the room, but it still didn’t feel like a connected space where Sara and Rich could entertain — so the design team invented a new layout.

After: The Kitchen

Relocating the laundry room and removing the kitchen’s bar countertop immediately upgraded the living-and-dining area. The French doors from the living room make much more sense here. Jonathan and Drew removed the ceiling fans and installed recessed lighting and modern fixtures. A combination of contemporary finishes and reclaimed, vintage details make the space warm, classic and comfortable.

After: The Pantry

Drew and Jonathan sourced a reclaimed wooden door for the kitchen pantry. Inside, they installed a custom shelving system complete with a variety of baskets and containers to help Sara and Rick stay organized. The archway of the pantry door ties in perfectly with the other arches throughout the renovated space, making the whole living area feel well-connected.
